Speaking of Sex…

POZ asked you, our HIV positive readers, how having HIV has affected your sex lives-delving into topics from disclosure to safer sex. Nearly a thousand of you (85% men, 14% women and 1% transgendered people) responded, revealing the innermost secrets of your behavior in the boudoir. Wonder how you measure up? Read on.

The straight and narrow…
20% of you are straight, 70% of you are gay/lesbian and 10% of you are bisexual.

68% of you are single. If you’re in the market, try checking out POZ Personals on POZ.com.

The ties that bind
19% of you are in a committed, monogamous relationship, and 12% of you are in a non monogamous, open relationship. Positive men are more likely to be single than positive women (68% vs. 61%) and nearly twice as likely as women to be in non monogamous, open relationships. 53% of women have had just one sexual partner in the last 12 months, compared with 19% of men. Almost a quarter (24%) of the men have had more than ten sexual partners in the last year, while only 3% of women have been getting that much action.

61% of you say that you are often/sometimes rejected by sexual partners because of your HIV status. That could be one reason that 66% of you said that your diagnosis has made you less confident sexually. And maybe that’s why 68% of you are having less sex since your diagnosis.

Now for the numbers that really count: 47% of you say you’re not getting any on a weekly basis (too bad), while 40% of you say you’re getting some one to two times a week. A lucky 2% of men claim to get it on five times or more a week, while a very lucky 5% of women get it on five times or more a week. You go, girls!

Kiss and tell
Half of you always disclose your HIV status to sexual partners; 40% say it depends on the situation; and 10% say you never kiss and tell. Women are more likely never to disclose than men (13% versus 8%).

28% say you disclose the first time you meet someone; 5% do it before locking lips; 5% before oral sex; 9% before intercourse; and 53% of you say the particulars of the person and the situation dictate when you’ll disclose.

Pill Popping
Though 72% of you are on an HIV regimen, only 47% of you think taking meds lowers your risk of transmitting the virus. Thee of little faith: Know that the lower your viral load, the less likely you are to transmit the virus (though you should always protect yourself and your partner).

When it comes to popping pills, men are more likely than women to take meds-73% versus 66%-maybe because more men have been positive longer.

22% of you have never been rejected by a potential sexual partner because of your HIV positive status.

Choice
52% of you would rather have sex with a positive person. 42% say it doesn’t matter whether your lover is positive or negative.

Only 6% of those surveyed would rather have sex with someone who is HIV negative-but when you break it down, the numbers are much higher for women than men: 17% for women and 4% for men. Perhaps this is due to women’s desire to have a child and the fact that it’s easier for a woman to have an HIV negative baby with an HIV negative man.

43% say you think about HIV while having sex; 43% say you sometimes do-and 14% of you never have thoughts of HIV on your mind.

10% of you claim to get more sex since your diagnosis. PLEASE tell us your secret!

Stayin’ safe
37% of men always use a condom, while 58% of women always do. 10% of men and women NEVER use a condom.

And when it comes to giving and receiving, twice as many women as men use protection during oral sex.

The Land Of Poz

Posted by pozlife on June 26, 2006

On June the 4th I went to our local urgent care center, I had been having bad chest pains from acid-reflux, or so I thought. As the pains were more burning and muscle soreness than shooting pains. They did an EKG and sent me on my way ,complete with a copy of my EKG. I got the feeling that they did not want to deal with me.

On June the 21st I had a routine checkup with my infectious disease doctor. He took one look at my EKG and went off. He wanted to know just what the fuck those people were thinking. I was admitted to the hospital right then and there.

Then the tests started , blood work , x-rays, EKGs, you name it. At one point I had a sonogram of my heart, now they bring the machine to your room. I liked that a lot and the guy who did it even more. He had the most gorgeous salt and pepper hair. At one time I was positioned where I just about hanging off the bed , using my hand to hold me in place. He firmly pressed the back of my hand with his leg , I have no idea if he did this on purpose , did it to sedate my nerves or as a form of flirting. It was just incredible , I came near to a full woodie.

At one point he looked at my chest and said ” Pigeon chest, Did it come out on its own? “

I said nothing , all of my life I have had a complex about my chest , it has a slight dip in a perfect line with my nipples. This has caused me much grief over my 45 years and the minute I got home Sunday , I went straight to the computer and looked it up. It is pectus excavatum and mine is not very noticeable, but now I know what it is and some of the chest pain may be coming from it! Why in all this time has no doctor said anything ? I will admit it is not very noticeable and I am an expert at hiding it, so that may play some part in my many doctors omissions. All of my life I have thought I just had a freaky little inward dip in my chest, now I see that it could be much worse. In some of my research I have seen pictures of very deformed chests. It has made my posture bad, most of the time from my hiding it and some I think from the indentation. As I say mine is very slight, but it can be the cause of some of the muscle pain in y chest. I have printed out a lot of the facts to take to my doctor in a week.

Next was a stress test, why do they punish you under the guise of making you well ? They injected radioactive material in my IV, then did a series of x-rays, then I had to walk on a treadmill , then rest and have more x-rays taken. Thank you Dr. Mengele , this has to be one of his Nazi creations! After many tests and flirting with every doctor in sight I was told it was not my heart and given a prescription for 300 mg Zantac and told to go see my HIV doctor for a esophagus exam.

So I am home now!

Under The Counter

Posted by pozlife on June 26, 2006

by Doug Ireland

Doug Ireland prescribes a violent reaction to the Bush/Pharma axis

Without a word of protest from the national AIDS organizations, the Bush administration, behind closed doors, has been sabotaging the ability of the world’s poorest countries to produce or buy cheap, generic AIDS meds. Here’s the background: In November 2001, after a long fight against Big Pharma’s monopolization of AIDS-drug production, a World Trade Organization meeting in Doha, Qatar, agreed that poor countries should have the right to break the multinational drug companies’ patent monopoly if they declared a national AIDS emergency. The U.S. was among the 142 countries signing this breakthrough agreement, under which poor countries could make their own AIDS meds cheaply or buy generic versions from a producing country (like India), thus bypassing Big Pharma.

This was a huge victory, won after years of struggle by AIDS and nongovernmental public-health-advocacy organizations around the world. The Doha Declaration began to save thousands of lives, by getting cheap, life-prolonging meds into the hands of HIV positive people in poorer nations. But the Bush administration is morbidly blackmailing poor countries into forfeiting their production rights under that treaty if they want (so-called) Free Trade Agreements with the U.S. Either the poor countries refuse to knuckle under and scuttle these bilateral and regional trade deals-worth billions-with Washington, or they accept the deals and raise the price of AIDS meds beyond the reach of the poor.

This unconscionable blackmail has made many countries, including six in Latin America, cede their rights to break the Big Pharma AIDS drug monopoly. Washington has launched tough negotiations with a raft of poor countries hard hit by AIDS, from Thailand to five southern African lands, including Botswana and South Africa. If Thailand signs the U.S. trade proposal, “Those who require the essential drugs but cannot afford them–they will have to die,” says Suwit Wibulpolpraset, MD, the Thai Public Health Ministry official coordinating his country’s response to the Bush administration’s arm-breaking trade deal that rolls back the Doha agreement. And the same goes for the other nations beaten with Washington’s big stick.

Bush and his cronies “began this trade blackmail in 2002, after a group of the largest Big Pharma companies-headed by Pfizer CEO Hank McKinnell-raised $30 million for the Republicans’ congressional campaigns that year,” says James Love, of the Consumer Project on Technology, the international point man in winning the patent-breaking Doha agreement and an unsung hero in the fight for cheap AIDS meds. The effect of these deals, Love says, is to force poor countries into enacting “superpatents” that prolong U.S. drugmakers’ monopolies and sharply limit the conditions under which their AIDS patents can be broken.

Though millions of lives are at stake in these sordid and lethal trade deals, the major U.S. AIDS organizations, like AIDS Action-which calls itself “the national voice on AIDS”-and the National Association of People With AIDS, have been AWOL from the fight against them. And since the AIDS advocates are silent, Washington can negotiate these murderous deals at economic gunpoint with little media notice.

I’m angry at our national AIDS groups for their isolationism, for their failure to lead a huge public outcry against the iniquitous Bush administration, which values Big Pharma’s profits ahead of the lives of poor people with HIV.

Washington should not be allowed to tear up its commitments without any protest from those who pretend to speak for us on AIDS.

Gay Sex In The 70s

Posted by pozlife on June 26, 2006

Gay Sex in the 70s

Back in 1980 I was 19, very new to the world of queer and I was in for a happy surprise as a high school friend moved to the Big Apple, after he got a place, I was on the next plane. I got to see some of the sites in this film , so it brings back many memories of New York and my friend. Sadly he was the first friend I had to pass from AIDS. We went to some of the hot spots in this film, Boy Bar, The Saint, the most memorable was The Anvil. We had been out dancing, drinking and smoking copious amounts of ganja. As we arrived I asked Johnny why this place opened so late, I think it opened at like 12 midnight. All I got for an answer was “you’ll see”. So we paid to get in, that itself was unusual for big city bars. In return we got 2 drink tickets.

I went off to the bathroom to make room for more alcohol and notice right away that it was cruise center, one long urinal troff was along one wall. While I was letting the yellow flow I head an announcement that no women were allowed downstairs. Why, I wondered ? I saw Johnny and we began to dance and cruse the hot men. About an hour latter I went off to get another libation. I turned around and Johnny was gone. As I looked for him ,I came to some steps that lead down to the fore mention place that women were forbidden to go.

So down the stairs I went, there were many people milling about and an adult movie playing on screen. I walked about, got grabbed a few times and saw guys rounding a corner to my right as I stood at the bottom of the stairs. I walk over and in my loudest , very souther voice cried ” Oh my God ? “…lets just say everything stopped in that second. There right in front of me were men in all stages of sexual activity , front and center was Johnny getting fucked face and ass. This was the first backroom I had ever seen.

I have a picture of me outside the Saint Marks baths, but I never went in. Many of the sexual glories of Gay New York are seen in this film, the piers, trucks, central park….This is a gay piece of Gay New York historic life.

Buzz Kill

The FDA sends medical marijuana up in smoke

In April, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decreed that smoking marijuana, which many people with HIV use to fight weight loss, nausea and neuropathy, was medically useless. Medical marijuana is legal in 11 states, but FDA spokeswoman Susan Bro says, “There is no data proving that smoked marijuana has a value in treating any medical condition.” This contradicts a 1999 finding by the National Academy of Sciences, which claimed pot was “moderately well suited” for such treatments.

Hilary McQuie of the Harm Reduction Coalition says, “[The FDA] didn’t use any new data, and they also gave approval to test a new marijuana spray [Sativex]. It’s contradictory.” McQuie believes the FDA’s stance is tied to pharmaceutical companies’ agenda of pushing their own smokeless remedies. “This administration has a puritanical, antipleasure agenda. [Drug companies] want people to [use their products] and not grow marijuana,” she says. States make the ultimate decision. So don’t hock your heat lamp yet.

Meth Madness

Posted by pozlife on June 24, 2006

by Josh Sparber

Looking at HIV through a crystal ball

Meet 11 gay men: ten positive, one negative, all white. On camera, each relives the same familiar-nonfictional-script: their first crystal meth high, then their addiction, HIV diagnosis and eventual crash. Todd Ahlberg’s documentary Meth, which first hit film festivals in February, gives meth its first celluloid close-up. Rates of crystal use are raging. Twenty percent of gay men surveyed by the Centers for Disease Control said they’d used meth in the past year, and the HIV rate among gay users in Los Angeles is triple that of gay nonusers. “It felt like we were gaining the upper hand with HIV,” says Ahlberg. “Then meth came along.”

Is Ahlberg’s take balanced? Perry Halkitis, PhD, a prevention specialist at New York University, says a film about white gay meth users is no longer relevant. “My data show black men and Latinos use as much or more than white men,” he says. Indeed, recent studies show men of color constitute 45% of users. Stephan Schell, who is interviewed in the film, counters that its message is universal. “Almost everybody I’ve known in 15 years of using has tested positive,” he says. “HIV and crystal meth just go hand in hand.” Cut.

HIV-1’s high virulence might be an accident of evolution

Posted by pozlife on June 20, 2006

The virulence characteristic of HIV-1–the virus predominantly
responsible for human AIDS–might amount to an accident of evolution,
new evidence reveals. A gene function lost during the course of viral
evolution predisposed HIV-1 to spur the fatal immune system failures
that are the hallmarks of AIDS, researchers report in the June 16, 2006
Cell.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people since it was first
recognized in 1981, according to The Joint United Nations Programme on
HIV and AIDS. In 2005, an estimated 4.1 million were newly infected
with the virus. While infection with related strains of “simian
immunodeficiency virus” (SIV) is similarly rampant among many species
of monkeys, naturally infected nonhuman primates usually don’t suffer
the symptoms associated with AIDS. The evidence now revealed by an
international team of researchers is the first to offer an explanation
for this striking difference.

The group found that a viral protein earlier shown to help the
virus evade the immune system, thereby allowing the SIVs that infect
monkeys to persist and multiply with high efficiency, also has a
protective role in the host immune system. The viral Nef protein
ratchets down the activation of critical agents of immunity called T
cells following SIV infection, thereby limiting the detrimental effects
otherwise caused by chronically strong immune activation.

The HIV-1 Nef protein, and those of its closest related simian
viruses, however, lack this protective function, leaving those infected
susceptible to the heightened immune activation associated with
progression to full-blown AIDS, reports Frank Kirchhoff of the
University of Ulm in Germany and his colleagues.

“Nef-mediated suppression of T cell activation is a fundamental
property of primate lentiviruses that likely evolved to maintain viral
persistence in the context of an intact host immune system,” the
researchers said. “The findings suggest that the gene function was lost
during viral evolution in a lineage that gave rise to HIV-1 and may
have predisposed the simian precursor of HIV-1 for greater
pathogenicity in humans.”

“Heightened immune activation is the only clear cut difference
between pathogenic and non-pathogenic infections with the
immunodeficiency viruses,” Kirchhoff added. “The observed difference in
Nef function may provide–for the first time–a mechanism to explain
why many monkey species naturally infected with SIV do not develop
disease.”

Study coauthor Beatrice Hahn of the University of Alabama has
previously shown that the two forms of HIV that infect humans
originated from related SIVs found in different species of African
primates. HIV-1–most closely related to an SIV strain found in
chimpanzees–is the more virulent of the two human strains and the
source of the majority of HIV infections throughout the world. The less
pathogenic HIV-2 evolved from a virus that infects long-tailed
relatives of baboons called sooty mangabeys. While HIV and SIV strains
all infect T cells that are critical for a functional immune response,
SIV usually does so without causing serious damage in their natural
primate hosts.

Of more than 30 SIVs that have been molecularly characterized,
all encode a Nef gene. However, Kirchhoff noted, functional information
about the gene’s role had been almost exclusively derived from the
HIV-1 version of Nef. To get a broader evolutionary perspective in the
current study, Kirchhoff’s group examined nef gene variants taken from
a variety of divergent SIV lineages.

Nef variants from the great majority of primate SIVs, including
the less virulent human strain HIV-2, suppress the expression of a
receptor normally found on the surface of T cells, making the immune
cells less responsive to activation, the researchers found. In
contrast, they report, the nef gene of HIV-1 and a subset of closely
related SIVs failed to limit T cell activation and death.

“Intriguingly, this loss of Nef-mediated suppression of T cell
activation appears to have occurred twice, once in the ancestor of a
group of viruses infecting Cercopithecus monkeys, and once in SIVcpz,
the ancestor of HIV-1 which infects chimpanzees,” noted study coauthor
Paul Sharp, of the University of Nottingham, who is a leading expert in
HIV and SIV evolution.

“What these viruses have in common is a vpu gene, not found in
other SIVs, and so it’s tempting to speculate that the presence of vpu
is somehow causally related to the change in Nef function,” Sharp
added.

The findings expand on previous studies that found that
nef-deficient SIV failed to cause symptoms in a monkey species normally
susceptible to disease, Kirchhoff said. Rhesus macaques infected with
the mutant virus had extremely low viral loads and “either no
pathogenicity, or a markedly protracted disease course.” Similarly,
humans infected with nef-defective HIV-1 progress to disease symptoms
slowly, if at all.

Several Nef functions were found to be likely contributors to
the effect, including the gene’s ability to get around the immune
system.

“The gene was shown to be important for viral pathogenicity,”
Kirchhoff said. “It appeared that Nef was a ‘bad guy’ because it
enhanced persistence and replication of the virus.”

The new findings suggest the gene’s role may be less black and
white. “SIV Nef not only facilitates SIV persistence but may act as a
‘rheostat,’ allowing high enough levels of T cell activation to ensure
sufficient viral replication and transmission, while at the same time
preventing escalation of immune activation to levels that may be
harmful to the host,” the researchers said.

The results also raise the possibility that treatments that
could carefully limit the immune system in infected humans–mimicking
the tight balance maintained in the other primates–might offer a new
approach to HIV therapy, Kirchhoff said.

“A strong immune response can be good in the short term, but if
sustained for a long time as in those with HIV, it can exhaust the
immune system,” he said. “If you could somehow dampen the response, it
might effectively convert the condition to the more chronic,
asymptomatic infection seen in monkeys.”

Further studies by the team will examine whether SIVs carrying
Nef genes artificially made incapable of limiting T cell activation
might become more pathogenic in their natural monkey hosts. The group
will also examine whether Nef variation among HIV-2 strains might
explain differences in the rate of progression to disease in infected
humans.

In the Flesh: Undressing for Success * This Weeks Read

Posted by pozlife on June 19, 2006

Gavin Geoffrey Dillard’s “tell all” memoirs might have actually lived up to this description had Dillard been able to publish his book as he originally wrote it.

inflesh.gif - 9.98 KUnfortunately, a few tightasses, mainly a couple of gay moguls who shall remain nameless (but you all know who they are) threatened to file suit if Dillard published his account of his relationships with them. So Dillard took his manuscript, gave these characters aliases, and sent the book to a new publisher. And nobody was fooled.

Dillard’s publishing problem with his former lovers is only one incident in a gay odyssey that dazzles the readers almost as much as it did the man who experienced it. Born in 1956, Dillard was (and is) the epitome of good looks and sexual recklessness in a community that prizes both attributes.

Though hot and sexy enough to hustle for many years and to appear in several porn videos, Dillard is also the talented author of a series of critically-acclaimed poetry books. Dillard used to conduct his poetry readings in the nude, which made those events sell-outs and added to his reputation as “the naked poet”.

Though Dillard’s poetry will undoubtedly outlive other aspects of his life, In the Fleshjust adds to his reputation as a hot bod and the object of desire for two generations of gay men. While Dillard also writes about his art, his poetry, and his never-ending search for spiritual enlightenment, he seems to concentrate on his many sexual exploits.

This is not a bad idea: after all, Dillard’s sexual history is what sells books (and I love to read dirt as much as anyone). Unfortunately, In the Flesh‘s emphasis on Dillard’s sexploits diminishes his other talents.

In the Fleshis divided into short chapters, mostly named after tricks, lovers, gurus, and other people who made an impact in Dillard’s life. Most of Dillard’s tricks and lovers are dead – of AIDS, of course – so the author is free to write about them as he sees fit.

Among Dillard’s celebrated tricks was the late Scott O’Hara, the “Biggest Dick in San Francisco,” whose encounter with Dillard (a summit meeting of sex) was regrettably unrecorded. Among the exceptions who are alive today are the aforementioned moguls, who apparently paid for Dillard’s favors.

The relationships weren’t all sex, since Dillard has a brain as well as a body and can be relied on to behave at social functions. For his part, in addition to money, Dillard got an entry into Hollywood society. One of the celebrities who Dillard mentions by name is Dolly Parton. Dillard met at her manager’s home and “became quite chummy.”

Those of us who survived the late seventies, albeit in South Florida, know that period as one of sexual and chemical adventure that could never happen again. For Dillard, drop-dead gorgeous and “in the center of West Hollywood, which was, by my psychic calculations, the center of the Center of the Universe (the gay mecca set the trends for all of Hollywood and consequently the world),” the late seventies were a sex and drugs playground like no other.

Dillard, who is himself positive, once “coined a notion that because of the nature of the spread of HIV (then believed to be the sole cause of AIDS), that anybody that was worth ‘having’ (anybody that knew how to have good, open, active sex) would end up dying, leaving behind a world full of gimpy wimpy white boys who were plainly too milquetoast, inhibited, or inept to have ever contracted the disease in the first place” (He was wrong.).

Dillard, not surprisingly, does not trust the medical establishment, who he suspects created AIDS in the first place, opting instead for alternative therapies (including urine therapy) that are apparently keeping him in good health.

“Would we never know spontaneous, passionate, celebratory and carefree sex again?” Though In the Fleshlooks back nostalgically at the past, it ends in the present and the future. Now forty-two, and still attractive, Dillard “lives in a garden with six cats on the foggy cliffs of Northern California.”

“I love being alone, and have realized finally that I am the Center of the Universe. And in this consummation of Self I have not made a million dollars, or been discovered by Gus Van Sant, but I have learned the distinctions between crows and ravens, buzzards and vultures, and can confront a mountain lion in the shadows without question or fear.”

In the Flesh put Dillard in Hollywood’s hit list, but it also introduced him to a new generation of readers and informed and entertained those of us who still remember the old days. May he have many more productive years.

Also from Barricade Books:
Sing Out!: Gays and Lesbians in the Music World by Boze Hadleigh (328 pages; $21.95). An update of Hadleigh’s The Vinyl Closet (1991), Sing Out! is the story of queers who sing, play, dance or write music. Gossipy enough to entertain those who are so inclined, Sing Out! is also informative. A new chapter carries the tale through the “gay nineties”.

US Military Pondered Love Not War

Posted by pozlife on June 19, 2006

Why have I been singing that old Gap Band song " You dropped a bomb on me"

US Air Force B-52 bomber

The unconventional proposals were made by the US Air Force

The US military investigated building a "gay bomb", which would make enemy soldiers "sexually irresistible" to each other, government papers say.

Other weapons that never saw the light of day include one to make soldiers obvious by their bad breath.

The US defense department considered various non-lethal chemicals meant to disrupt enemy discipline and morale.

The 1994 plans were for a six-year project costing $7.5m, but they were never pursued.

The US Air Force Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio, sought Pentagon funding for research into what it called "harassing, annoying and 'bad guy'-identifying chemicals".

The plans were obtained under the US Freedom of Information by the Sunshine Project, a group which monitors research into chemical and biological weapons.

'Who? Me?'

The plan for a so-called "love bomb" envisaged an aphrodisiac chemical that would provoke widespread homosexual behavior among troops, causing what the military called a "distasteful but completely non-lethal" blow to morale.

Scientists also reportedly considered a "sting me/attack me" chemical weapon to attract swarms of enraged wasps or angry rats towards enemy troops.

A substance to make the skin unbearably sensitive to sunlight was also pondered.

Another idea was to develop a chemical causing "severe and lasting halitosis", so that enemy forces would be obvious even when they tried to blend in with civilians.

In a variation on that idea, researchers pondered a "Who? Me?" bomb, which would simulate flatulence in enemy ranks.

Indeed, a "Who? Me?" device had been under consideration since 1945, the government papers say.

However, researchers concluded that the premise for such a device was fatally flawed because "people in many areas of the world do not find fecal odour offensive, since they smell it on a regular basis".

Captain Dan McSweeney of the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate at the Pentagon said the defense department receives "literally hundreds" of project ideas, but that "none of the systems described in that [1994] proposal have been developed".

He told the BBC: "It's important to point out that only those proposals which are deemed appropriate, based on stringent human effects, legal, and international treaty reviews are considered for development or acquisition."

Now everyone sing along:

Gap Band Lyrics

You Dropped A Bomb On Me Lyrics

You were the girl that changed my world
You were the girl for me
You lit the fuse, I stand accused
You were the first for me
But you turned me out, baby

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (But you turned me on, baby)
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

You were my thrills, you were my pills
You dropped a bomb on me
You turn me out, you turn me on
You turned me loose, then you turned me wrong

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (But you turned me out, baby)
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

Just like Adam and Eve, said you'd set me free
You took me to the sky, I'd never been so high
You were my pills, you were my thrills
You were my hope, baby, you were my smoke
You dropped a bomb, hey, babe

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (But you turned me out, baby)
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (But you turned me on, baby)

You dropped a bomb on me, baby (Mmm)
You dropped a bomb on me (You dropped a bomb on me, baby)
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

We were in motion, felt like an ocean
You were the girl for me
You were the first explosion, turned out to be corrosion
You were the first for me
But you turned me out, baby

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (Whoa…whoa…oh…oh…baby)
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me (I won't forget what you done to me, babe)

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

I-I-I
I-I-I won't forget it
I-I-I
I-I-I won't forget it

You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me
You dropped a bomb on me, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

I-I-I
I-I-I won't forget it
I-I-I
I-I-I won't forget it

You turned me out, you turned me on
And then you dropped me to the ground
You dropped a bomb on me.

You turned me out, you turned me on
And then you dropped me to the ground
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, you turned me on
And then you dropped me to the ground
You dropped a bomb on me

You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me

You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me

You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me

You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me

Losing My Religion

Posted by pozlife on June 17, 2006

Coming form the south I have seen my fair share of religions , both good and crazy ( snake handling anyone )…well I guess the only snake most of us want to handle is between a mans legs! I wonder why so many religious leaders insist on taking one passage of the bible so literal ? The bible has been translated many times and each time it has been altered according to the translator. King James it has been said , made the most alterations. There are even parts left out , the book of Mary for one. When are our religious leaders going to see the bible as a book of ideals and not a book of actual fact . Its like the experiment that we did in school , the teacher whispered something to a student on one side of the room. Then the student whispered it to the next and so on till it reached the end of the room. Just about every time it was totally different in the end. I suggest that the holly rollers read the below letter that was written to that great God inspired Dr. Laura ( I was amazed at how fast I found this one the net ) .

an open letter to Dr. Laura

J. Kent Ashcraft

May 2000

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

These are the Biblical verses refered to above, in two different translations: the King James Version [KJV], and New International Version [NIV]

Lev 18:22 [KJV] Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. [NIV] Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

Lev 1:9 [KJV] But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. [NIV] He is to wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.

Exodus 21:7 [KJV] And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. [NIV] If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do.

Lev 15:19-24 [KJV] And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. 20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean. 21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. 22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. 23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even. 24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
[NIV] When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening. 20 Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening. 24 If a man lies with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean.

Lev 25:44 [KJV] Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. [NIV] Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.

Exodus 35:2 [KJV] Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death. [NIV] For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

Lev 11:10 [KJV] And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you [NIV] But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales — whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water — you are to detest.

Lev 21:20 [KJV] Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken [NIV] or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles.

Lev 19:27 [KJV] Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. [NIV] Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

Lev 11:6-8 [KJV] And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 7 And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. 8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.
[NIV] The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. 7 And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divied, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. 8 You must not eat their meat or touch their carcases; they are unclean for you.

Lev 19:19 [KJV] Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee. [NIV] Keep my decrees. Do not mate different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Lev 24:10-16 [KJV] And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; 11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) 12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them. 13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. 16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.
[NIV] Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite. 11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the name of the LORD with a curse; so they brough him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.) 12 They put him in custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them. 13 Then the LORD said to Moses: 14 Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. 15 Say to the Israelites: If anyone curses his God, he will be held responsible; 16 anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.

Lev 20:14 [KJV] And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. [NIV] If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.
